7.....At what time does a puppy start to have their own personality ...
A.... About 4 to 10 weeks old .You usually see little things .One may be alitlle more shy ,one more playfull .Most puppies
though are very happy and love to be held and played with .We as their friends and caregivers help to make the personality
of our pet as time passes .
8....When do you let your puppies go to new homes ?
A......There are times I let them go at 10 weeks ,most go between 12 and 18 weeks old .This is according to personality
,vet approval and in what way they get to you .I have kept puppies even longer if I had to fly them .
9....Do you have vet and other records on the puppies and will we be able to see those ?
A....I keep a record on what I do ...worming starts at 2 to 3 weeks old and then each week to 2 weeks after that .If
I use a dip or spray or a topical flea product ,I will list that also .And Yes ,all my puppies go to the vet ,from 2 to 4
times before they go to new homes .And all records will be given to you from both the vet and I on what has been done and
the next time your puppy should see a vet .But always ,take your pet to the vet as soon as possible after you recieve your
new puppy /rescue.
10.....What are some of the traits of puppies that I should know ?
A..... Puppies automatically see you and your family as part of a pack .Their pack .They test you to see how far
they can go and what they can do and get away with .They also vie for attention with your children and tend to be bossy when
they can .Sometimes ,a puppy will get jealous of another animal or child if too much attention is put one place and not to
them .Puppies are like children .Toy dogs are babies that never really grow up .Treat them as you would your child .If they
do something wrong ,positive reinforcement of what no means (and never waiver or you have a problem child ) ..I use time out
and ignore as two ways to punish for the wrong things ,treats and lots of love and hugs for the right things .
11...Do you crate train ?
A....I do not personally like crate trainning .A toy dog and any puppy under 5 to 6 months cannot hold their urine and
bowels very well or very long at one time .So ,unless you can be there all the time you will have one little messed up puppy
when you get home .
I have found that puppy pads are the best .Baby gate them in a room (kitchen ) ...Never a bath room as they can get into
a toilet but not out and into a tub and not out and can easily be hurt or killed , leave toys ,food, water ,bed and puppy
pads in the room when you are away .That is their place and more apt than not they will begin to use the pads very well in
a few weeks time .
Never give total free run of the house until they learn where the food ,water,puppy pads are and can go to them with
no problems .
12....How often do I bathe my puppy ?
A....Once a month ,no more than that unless you have to .Can cause dry skin and more problems .Use an Oatmeal and aloe
shampoo ,it is the best .
13....What do I feed my pet ?
A.... Dry food only .Never wet the food or give canned food .Can cause teeth to become rotted .I recomend Eukanuba
Small Breed Puppy Food ,this has small Bites and easy for puppy to chew (made by Iams )
14 ....How often should I feed my pet ?
A.... Small puppies and Toy Dogs need food all day .They will eat a bite ,play ,eat a bite ,sleep ...etc. Keep dry food
available all day for your pet .When going to a new place a puppy can have some changes in habbits of eating ,they will eat
when stress becomes less .Again ,do not wet the food ,never give any table food ,milk,bones to these puppies .Bones can cause
death .
15....My puppy isn't eating alot ,what can I do ?
A... Toy dogs do not eat alot ,they eat what they need .Do not try to feed more than what they eat themselves .Treats
should be given as a reward ,not a meal . Also if not eating ,you should have handy some honey or nutri-cal and give a couple
times a day ,if puppy becomes lethargic ,take to your vet asap !
